Planet
One world with no time to lose
At Seda, we are fully and urgently committed not just to continually reducing our environmental footprint but to achieving an increasingly strong net positive climate effect through our policies and choices regarding Raw Materials & Responsible Sourcing, Energy, Water, Waste and the Circular Economy.
-
88% of all our raw materials are fibres coming from renewable PEFC™ or FSC® certified forests or sustainably-managed forests.
Forests play a key role in mitigating climate change by absorbing carbon from the atmosphere through reforestation. Today, the general rule is that three to five new trees are planted for each tree harvested in sustainably managed forests.
As a result:
European forests grew by 44,000 square kilometres between 2005 and 2015 (an area the size of Switzerland).
In the EU alone, sustainably managed forests deliver a net positive climate effect estimated at ‐806 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalents annually. That's equal to around 20% of all fossil fuel emissions in the EU.
-
We are actively committed in reducing our total GHG emissions through energy-saving measures and efficiencies and transitioning to renewable resources.
In the latest years we have increased the use of renewable sources up to 40% of the total consumption, rising to 100% in UK.
-
We are committed in keeping waste and consumption to a minimum.
Our plants operate efficiently, achieving ambitious waste targets reductions thanks to state-of-the-art technology and processes.
Indeed, today we recycle over 99% of the waste produced on our sites.
Our commitment in reducing waste to a minimum includes partnering with a solid network of stakeholders within our value chain to ensure we do our part.
-
Our water consumption has successfully decreased over the years thanks to a constant reduction in overall use and by reusing water whenever possible.
In addition, we treat all wastewater in our own facilities and strictly monitor the quality of all water discharged into local sewer systems.
-
Our fibre based products are designed following the Ecodesign principles to achieve the highest performance levels for the environment and recyclability, in line with Circular Economy targets.
Paper packaging is the most widely recycled material in the world and its fibers can be recycled up to 8 times in the normal paper recycling stream.
In Europe, 82% of paper-based packaging is currently recycled and we are working with the European 4Evergreen initiative to increase this to 90% by 2030, including by providing recycling facilities in food service outlets.
